Botox Cost and Price Breakdown

Compared to other cosmetic procedures, the cost of Botox injections is generally low.

According to the national average 2010 figures from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons:

  • a single Botox injection by a board certified surgeon cost approximately $375,
  • treatment of facial areas requiring multiple injections (e.g. around the eyes where crow's feet tend to form) ranged from $280 to $680, and
  • a large area like the forehead averaged $780 to $880.

Per unit, Botox prices range from about $10-$18, depending on the part of the country you live in and also the demand for Botox in the area.

Physician / Surgeon Fees

Surgeon’s fees figure heavily in the overall cost of the procedure and vary widely by training and expertise. It is, however, important to consult with a properly trained and qualified physician.

A properly trained and qualified physician have spent a substantial amount of time learning Botox techniques and staying up to date with industry innovations. Their services will maximize both your treatment experience and beneficial results with Botox and hence you will save money.

Botox doses

The total "dose" of Botox in a standard vial is 100 units, but depending on the treatment, the surgeon may mix in varying amounts of saline solution.

As a general rule, 30 units is usually enough to induce the proper paralyzing effect in the muscles to remove wrinkles. The doses outlined on the left are standard to produce the needed effect with most patients.

Although similar injectables may cost less per unit, more total units are required to achieve the desired results. In the end, the overall costs are roughly the same.

Injection Doses

Standard Injection Doses:

  • 30-50 "units" of Botox
  • 60-200 "units" of Dysport
  • 750-2,500 "units" of MyoblocTM

The doses outlined on the right are the standard needed to get rid of wrinkles on most patients' faces. Although other similar injectables may cost less per unit, they require more units injected to induce the desired results, making the overall costs about the same. How long the injections last is also slightly different.

A Note on "Cheap" Botox

If you're really feeling the money crunch, you may be tempted to look for the lowest possible price on a Botox treatment.

If this is the case, please do so with caution. Every doctor essentially gets Botox from the same place, and all generally pay the same price (around $400 for 100 units.) Beware of anyone offering Botox injections for an exceptionally low price.
