Labiaplasty
There are some women who are not comfortable with the way their genitals look. Don’t fret if you happen to be one of them because you are definitely not alone. A cosmetic surgery procedure like labiaplasty is designed to solve such a problem.
Labiaplasty, sometimes known as labioplasty or labial reduction surgery, is a plastic surgery of the labia majora and/or labia minor – the external folds of skin surrounding the vaginal opening. The procedure involves reducing the elongated labium. Some women complain that the elongated labium causes pain during sexual intercourse, and/or they dislike the appearance of these extended folds of skin.
Women often request a labiaplasty procedure because of two reasons. Some opt for labiaplasty in order to get rid of the discomfort caused by elongated labia during sexual intercourse and other activities such as biking, and working out. Some simply want a change in the appearance of their genitals specifically the Mons Pubis and the internal and external labia.
Objective of Labiaplasty
The objective of the labiaplasty procedure is to reduce the size of one or both sets of labia. It may also be used to repair the labia following disease or injury, or especially after childbirth. Moreover, labiaplasty may also be performed along with hoodectomy, which exposes the clitoris in an attempt to increase sexual stimulation.
Women who have long or hanging vaginal lips can benefit from a labiaplasty procedure. Some women are born with this kind of condition while others develop the problem after childbirth or as they get older.
The procedure usually takes about one to two hours to complete. For labiaplasty of the inner lips, some surgeons reduce the excess tissue by removing a wedge-shaped section from the center and bringing the top and bottom together. The excess skin is then surgically removed.
The risks associated with labiaplasty include changes in sensation, asymmetry, and changes in pigmentation.
Labiaplasty is more often than not, an outpatient procedure performed under local anesthesia. The procedure costs anywhere from $3,500 to $12,000 depending on your geographic location and plastic surgeon.
