Your Skin - Skin Care
With all of the features on our body that we would like to tinker with and change, the skin is probably the most important, although it is often hard to see it that way.
Cosmetic Procedures to Improve Skin Appearance
Skin doesn't automatically jump out at you as something that is going to affect the way people see you. Skin is more like the background music in a shopping mall or an elevator. Few people notice it unless it is really bad or it is distracting.
If you do have 'distracting' skin you probably want to change that and at least make your skin something that people won't notice, and if they do notice it, they'll notice it for the right reasons.
Taking Care of Your Skin
Firstly, moisturizing and washing should be at the top of your list. You cannot have great skin without these two things. Washing keeps bacteria off of your face and thus prevents any small infections that may harm your skin.
The moisturizer on the other hand will help you retain the life giving water that makes up so much of our body and that will keep your skin growing and alive. It also keeps your skin looking smooth after shaving.
Perfect Skin
There are many cosmetic treatments that will help you achieve that look of perfect skin you want, from traditional methods to newer procedures based on the latest scientific developments. Together, these skin care and rejuvenation options can give you a radiant glow and help you to project a healthy appearance to the world.
Dermabrasion
Derambrasion is a controlled surgical method that refinishes the top skin layers by softening surface irregularities. The goal is to create a smoother appearance, and it is not unusual for this method to be used to improving scarring. It can also take away keratoses, which are pre-cancerous growths, smooth out fine wrinkles, and substantially improve scars from acne. Dermabrasion may be used as a stand-alone procedure, or in conjunction with a surgical face lift or chemical peel. Visit our Dermabrasion page to learn more about this procedure.
Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser skin resurfacing is often called a laser “peel.” Using a laser, the surgeon concentrates short, pulsating beams of light on areas of irregular skin. The method is very precise, and helps damaged skin to be removed one layer at a time, which reduces the potential of hypopigmentation or skin lightening. The laser beam heats the dermis, which underlies the outer layer of the skin (the epidermis), which in turn stimulates the growth of new collagen fibers. As the treated area begins to heal, the new skin is both firmer and smoother.
The treatment is appropriate for fine lines and wrinkles in the usual problem areas around the mouth, eyes, and forehead. Laser resurfacing will improve scars from acne, chickenpox, or the measles, as well as discolorations from liver spots and sun-damaged skin. Additionally, the laser can even out yellowish and grayish tones in the complexion, address enlarged oil glands, and lessen the appearance of birth marks. Stretch Mark Removal
Stretch marks can occur for a variety of reasons, but are exactly what the name applies. When the skin is stretched beyond the limits of its elasticity, red or purplish stripes appear on the surface where the underlying tissues have torn and bled. Laser surgery can be used to remove the thin layers of skin where the stretch mark discoloration is most visible.
When a fractional laser is used, the resulting heat stimulates collagen production, which will help to further close the tear and make the skin look even smoother and more unblemished. Depending on the severity of the marks, as man as 10 treatments may be required, and the total improvement will not be evident for as much as six months. Visit our stretch mark removal page which goes into further detail on what you can expect, costs and whether you are a good candidate.
