Face Lift Recovery

What is the Recovery Time?

Face lifts are one of the few definite ways to reverse signs of aging in the face. That's important because your face is your most important visual aspect when interacting with the world. You don't need fine lines and wrinkles to obscure the real you, especially if you feel young on the inside.

For people considering face lift, one of the key concerns is the recovery process. Ideally, people don't want to be out of commission for a long time after a cosmetic enhancement. There's good news on that front: a face lift is relatively easy to recover from.

What are the Different Methods?

There are essentially two kinds of face lifts available. The first is the more traditional surgical face lift. The second kind is the newer non-surgical methods. A surgical method requires incisions, muscle reconstruction, and sutures. A non-surgical technique requires no invasive surgery at all. These non-surgical techniques usually involve a laser or radio frequency emitter that heats up the underlying facial tissue.

Regardless of the technique, most patients should be able to return to work in a week. The first few days following the surgery will have the worst side effects. The typical side effects are bruising, swelling, and skin irritation. These should subside within the first three days. Patients who chose a surgical technique will have to return to the surgeon at some point to remove any remaining sutures. Most patients of non-surgical techniques don't have to return for a checkup unless serious side effects are noticed.

Post-surgery instructions

In the week after the surgery, patients are instructed to refrain from any contact with the face, keep their heads elevated for proper drainage, and avoid skin irritants like alcohol and saunas. The basic idea is to avoid anything that could do damage to your healing face.

Major swelling should be gone within a week, but the full results of a face lift won't be visible until months later. That's because the underlying tissue must heal properly before your final form is permanently in place. This is especially true for non-surgical procedures. Either way, you can expect to return to work within a week and be fully healed in two to three months.

Surgical or non-surgical technique?

Most face lift patients are extremely satisfied with their new look. In general, the recovery period for face lifts is quick. People with busy schedules are better suited for a non-surgical technique, while people who can afford to spend a few weeks healing up properly should opt for a surgical technique.

Talk to a surgeon for more details about the procedures and recovery period. Some people can heal faster than others depending on their medical history. A face lift is a viable solution to the age-old problem of wrinkling. Make a positive choice for your life and consider the possibilities.
