Eye Lift Recovery
Although eye lift surgery is a common procedure in the world of plastic surgery, it is not uncomplicated and should not be taken lightly. Going into the surgery, you should have a realistic sense of the recovery process and make the necessary preparations to be away from your job and to avoid strenuous activity.
Take Time Off Work
If you have two weeks of vacation time at your place of employment each year, and you plan on having eye lift surgery, you will need those two weeks for your recovery. It is also important to consider the time of year you opt for the procedure.
Mild weather is the best option, as both extreme heat and cold will add to your discomfort. Your face will be tender and sensitive, and you will have to take precautions not to damage either the results of the procedure or your vision.
Cigarettes and Alcohol
Strenuous Activity
Discuss with your surgeon in advance the degree to which your physical activities will need to be limited. Obviously contact sports are out, but you will also have to avoid any activity that causes straining of the facial muscles.
Both cigarettes and alcohol can impede recovery from an eye lift. Smokers will likely be asked to put down their cigarettes for a period of time leading up to and following the surgery, and alcohol should be avoided for at least two weeks after the procedure.
Make-Up
Although women will be tempted to hide their post-surgical bruising with make-up, cosmetics must be avoided until you are given the go-ahead by your doctor. The chemicals in the make-up can cause complications, in particular, swelling, irritation, and occasionally even infection.
Although these points constitute the general guidelines for recovery from an eye lift, discuss the procedure at length with your doctor and find out exactly what you need to do after the surgery to ensure the best results.
