Your Legs, Thighs and Hips
Plastic surgery and non-invasive cosmetic procedures can offer significant improvement in three problem areas about which women often complain: the legs, hips, and thighs.
Body Contouring of Legs, Thighs and Hips
Long, shapely legs are perceived by women -- and men (there is just something about long shapely legs that drives men crazy) -- as a major asset. Regrettably, however, not every woman has been blessed with “gorgeous gams.” That’s where medical science can intervene with a range of procedures, and even simple exercise, to overcome imperfections and to achieve those perfect legs.
Liposuction - Contouring, Toning & Shaping
It is a common misconception that liposuction is used for weight loss only. In reality, most liposuction procedures are intended to contour, shape, and tone key areas of the body. The idea is to create definition where none existed before, and this certainly works quickly and well on the legs.
This is not to say, however, that large volume liposuction cannot be used on the hips and thighs. Such a procedure is, however, usually part of the treatment for extreme obesity. It is aimed at removing significant amounts of fat that actually get in the way of other procedures. Normally, however, this level of liposuction is employed to improve the health of the patient and is not tied to the specific goal of enhancing appearance.
Ultrasonic Liposuction
Ultrasonic liposuction is a recently developed procedure. Unlike traditional liposuction, it uses ultrasonic rays to penetrate the fat cells, which are melted into an oil and then drawn off the area under treatment. This creates the desired shape and lessens the chance of ancillary damage to the muscles or organs.
Botox for Legs?
Again, Botox is a relatively new method of creating better legs, hips and thighs. Any imperfections, wrinkles and lines can be temporarily obliterated by injecting the popular toxin underneath the skin. The injection paralyzes the muscles and causes them to be become rigid and stiff. This smooths out any unwanted imperfections.
Botox is normally used on the face for fine lines in the corners of the eyes and frown lines around the mouth and on the forehead. For larger applications, there are now Botox creams on the market. While they can have a limited effectiveness, they rarely produce dramatic results. There are certainly better and more effective ways to tone the legs, thighs, and hips, although, in theory, these creams could help areas where cellulite is becoming apparent.
Exercise Is Key
Generally the method that works best to get your legs to the shape you want is to pair a strict exercise regime with a cosmetic surgical procedure like liposuction for contouring. Regardless, however, a consultation with a board-certified cosmetic surgeon is the only way to determine what will get you to your goals and to help you to understand what you can realistically expect from any procedure or technique.
