Tummy Tuck Trends 2010/2011
In 2010 more than 116,000 people chose to have a tummy tuck performed to improve their appearance and boost their self-esteem. This number is up slightly from the more than 115,000 women and men who had tummy tucks in 2009 and it is almost double the 62,000 patients who had the procedure done in 2000.
Otherwise known as an abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck procedure leaves patients with a smooth and flat stomach after removing the unattractive layers of fat and loose skin in the area. Weak or separated muscles can be corrected, leaving women with a firmer stomach and an attractive profile. Sagging stomachs and layers of flab aren’t only found on overweight women, they can even plague women who not overweight at all.
Abdominal exercises will only take you so far after pregnancy or to counter the effects of gravity over the years. Heredity also plays a major role in how your body will look over the years and it can be impossible to simply exercise away a flabby stomach. Tummy tucks are the perfect solution for non-smokers who have stable weight. While tummy tuck surgery are ideal for eliminating the after-baby “pouch” the procedure can not correct stretch marks and should not be used as a substitution for a healthy eating plan and regular exercise.
In addition to removing loose skin and excess fat from the middle and lower abdomen, a tummy tuck can also result in a smaller waistline. As the loose, sagging skin is cut away and pulled tight the waist may naturally shrink. Scars are easily hidden in the area that will be covered by swimsuits or underwear.
While most people think of tummy tucks as something that women have done, they are also commonly chosen by men. While most men won’t openly admit to having the surgery done, many will request a stomach that looks like Brad Pitt’s.
Kate Gosselin has no problem admitting to having a tummy tuck. Star Jones and Patricia Heaton have also chosen tummy tucks to flatten their abdomens. A safe procedure, tummy tucks have been around for decades.
