Smart Lipo
Smart Lipo is an innovative procedure which uses a laser to liquefy the fat tissue to make it easier to remove.
A small tube which contains the laser is inserted under the skin. The tube is the manipulated around the area where the fat is to be removed. The laser then transfers energy into the fat cells causing them to rupture and liquefy. The ruptured cells are them removed from the area.
Smart Lipo vs. Traditional Lipo?
Most purveyors of Smart Lipo suggest the laser allows for better skin tightening, less recovery time and greater fat removal, although there is some debate around it. Both can be good, but most surgeons say it is still the surgeon who makes the most difference, not the tool.
The biggest difference with Smartlipo is likely the quicker recovery time.
What are the Benefits of Smart Lipo?
The use of the laser allows patients to be awake during the procedure and to return to regular activities much faster than traditional liposuction procedures. It also allows for the procedure to be performed without the use of a traditional operating room, such as a medical office setting.
The Smartlipo procedure is extremely safe and FDA approved. The major benefit, of course, is your desired physical appearance.
What are the Risks?
As with all surgical procedures, there are risks involved. Because Smart Lipo is performed using local anesthesia, the major risks associated with general anesthesia are avoided. The Smart Lipo procedure is one of the safest cosmetic procedures available.
Though Smart Lipo is extremely safe, complications can occur. You should be sure to discuss these complications with your doctor during your consultation.
Am I a Good Candidate for SmartLipo?
Most people who are in good health and exercise regularly are good candidates for the Smart Lipo procedure. It's important to have realistic expectations for the procedure.
If you have areas of unwanted fat that seems to be unaffected by diet and exercise, you are more than likely a good candidate for the procedure. If you are on a blood thinner, pregnant, breastfeeding, are obese or are not in good general health, you may not be a good candidate for the Smart Lipo procedure.
What are the Costs for Smart Lipo?
The cost will vary depending on the area of the procedure, but most people pay between $2,000 and $4,500. Larger areas like the upper and lower abdomen will be at the high end of the range, with smaller areas like the neck and hips at the lower end.
This is cheaper than traditional liposuction methods.
