Facial Toning Exercises

Fine lines and wrinkles are things we'd all like to avoid. Time and gravity have other things in mind though. As you get older, your skin loses its natural elasticity and gravity tugs it down. The result is a face that can be obscured by signs of aging.

You can feel young on the inside, but people will see something completely different. The face is a key concern for most people getting on in the years. It's the most important visual aspect of your personality. That's why more and more people are turning to a face lift to turn back the clock.

A traditional face lift is a full-blown surgical procedure that many people just don't have the time or money to pursue. Many different alternatives have sprouted up over the years offering the same results for less money.

One of these alternatives is the idea of facial toning exercises. These exercises supposedly tone your facial muscles like any other form of exercise. Whether or not these exercises are effective has been the topic of hot debate among industry professionals.

The argument against facial toning exercises is as follows: your facial muscles are small to begin with, and do not tone the same way that your arms and legs. Theoretically it's impossible to increase the size of your facial muscles even with strenuous activity.

What's worse, it is believed that exercising the facial muscles can actually increase the number of wrinkles on your face. If your skin is looser and inelastic, as older skin tends to be, many cycles of exercise may cause different wrinkles to appear. Just like smiling and frowning are the result of specific facial movements, a facial toning exercise could create new wrinkles.

The main argument for facial toning exercises is the reduction of stress. Practitioners of the holistic healing arts believe that most wrinkles are caused by stress to begin with. They feel that exercise can alleviate this stress and eventually reduce the amount of wrinkles on your face. In addition, they believe that your perception of your face plays a big part in how it appears. By taking positive action it's thought that your look can change to reflect your attitude.

Considering the two arguments, it's clear that facial toning exercises are not a surefire way of reducing wrinkles and fine lines. For those who are serious about reversing the signs of aging, a real face lift is probably better than taking on a facial exercise regime. If you're still interested, your best bet is to talk to an industry professional on both sides of the fence and make up your mind from there.
