Eye Lift Surgery

Side Effects and Risks

If you have decided to undergo the life changing process of an eye lift, you should know what you are in for. While the vast majority of these procedures go off without a hitch you should be aware of the following eye lift - side effects and risks.

  • Temporary vision problems
  • Double or blurred vision may occur after undergoing blepharoplasty. This typically lasts for just a few days following the surgery.
  • Eye closure problems
  • Some patients may have difficulty closing their eyes when they sleep; in rare cases this condition may be permanent.
  • Swelling or asymmetry changes
  • Temporary swelling and a slight imbalance of one eye in relation to the other may occur during the healing or scarring process.
  • Acne. After the stitches are removed tiny whiteheads may appear. The surgeon can remove the whiteheads with a very fine needle.
  • Ectropion. This extremely rare complication is the pulling down of the lower lids. Further surgery may be required in order to correct this symptom.

The best way to avoid these side effects is to know if you are a good candidate for eye lift surgery. While both men and women make equally good candidates, anyone hoping to have the procedure done should be:

  • Physically healthy
  • Psychologically stable
  • Realistic in their expectations
  • Age 35 or older

Also, of you have any of the following ailments you should reconsider the procedure and look for alternative methods of stopping the signs of aging. The following
conditions, combined with eye lift surgery could have adverse effects.

  • Thyroid problems
  • Dry eyes
  • Lack of sufficient tears
  • High blood pressure
  • Circulatory disorders
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Diabetes
  • Detached retina
  • Glaucoma
