Brow Lift Procedure
Heredity, stress, poor diet, poor health, sun exposure, and time all contribute to the aging process. Nowhere is age more prominently shown than in the forehead and eyebrow. The appearance of the eyes and their relationship to the brows significantly affect one's overall aesthetic and youthful appearance. Frown lines, wrinkles, drooping brow and eyelids contribute to a supposed tired, frustrated, angry, and sad appearance. All these flaws combine to highlight your vulnerable older age.
With these impending signs of aging diminishing your attractiveness, one can look and feel older than they actually are. That is why more and more people are seeking rejuvenation through brow lift plastic surgery to restore some semblance of their once youthful appearance to improve their overall self-esteem and quality of life.
Candidates for the procedure
The most common candidate for brow lifts is men and women from the ages of 40 to 60 years. It is however not limited to this age demographic, there are many cases of younger people who have developed frown lines from intense stress or muscle activity. Also some hereditary traits cause low brows and furrow lines above the nose.
Brow lifts are aimed at the forehead and eyebrow. It helps to soften and improve horizontal forehead wrinkles, vertical frown lines between the eyes, crow's feet, and drooping brows. All procedures may involve tightening loose skin and excising extra skin.
Methods & Techniques
This page is dedicated to informing you about available brow lift procedures available, the length of procedure, anesthesia involved, and whether it is performed as an in or out patient operation.
Coronal Brow Lift
This procedure is the oldest and most reliable method in brow lift surgery. Coronal brow lifts are aimed at people who are looking to raise their brow line.
The procedure involves making a long incision from ear to ear. Through this incision, your surgeon can alter the muscles (frontalis, procerus, and corrugators) that cause horizontal forehead wrinkles and scowling. The surgeon then proceeds to lift the forehead flap up and removes excess skin, about a 1-2 cm strip of your scalp. The remaining scalp is sewed back together. The procedure lengthens the forehead and raises the hairline as the forehead is lifted. This operation is usually performed as on an out patient basis with the procedure lasting anywhere from 45 to 120 minutes. Anesthesia is usually a combination of local and perhaps general anesthetics and sedation.
Endoscopic Brow Lift
This recent procedure is quickly superseding coronal brow lift as the method of choice, as this procedure essentially produces the same result albeit with smaller incisions and subsequent lower side effects and faster recovery.
The procedure involves creating 3-6 small incisions to allow entrance of an endoscope so the surgeon can see the underlying muscle and observe the progress of the procedure. Appropriate alterations are made to the muscles under view, and also the surgeon can lift your forehead, but does not remove the excess scalp. Finally, endo lifts, like coronal lifts, raise your hairline, but (unlike coronal lifts) they do not cause temporary numbness on top of your head. This procedure is performed on an outpatient basis with the procedure lasting from 30 to 90 minutes. Local or general anesthetic is employed in combination with sedation.
Endoscopic Brow Lift Advantage
Compared to the traditional coronal brow lift, this procedure is minimally invasive. The utilization of smaller incisions minimizes the chance of infection, and consequently increases healing times following the operation. The ensuing scars are smaller and much less noticeable as they hide reasonably well in the confines of the hair. Additionally, scalp tissue is essentially not removed in the procedure and there is relatively little to no hair loss. Overall, Endoscopic brow lifts can produce the same results of a traditional lift with fewer complications.
Lateral Brow Lift
This simple procedure targets only the outer brow, and is ideally suited to prospective patients who are only concerned with the drooping of the ends of the eyebrows.
During a lateral brow lift, incisions are placed in the hairline at the temples towards the sides of the face. The lateral brow lift removes excess skin, lifting the outer corners of the forehead. This procedure is performed on an outpatient lasting from 20-60 minutes. Local anesthetic with light sedation is normally employed.
Lateral Brow Lift Effect
The most prominent feature of this procedure is the instantaneous new look at the end of your eyebrows. In many cases, patients receive an enhanced arch at the ends of their eyebrows, giving them an exotic look that is extremely appealing to the eye (think Catherine Zeta-Jones).
Mini Brow Lift
A mini brow lift is a minimally invasive brow lift that helps to tighten the skin and muscles in the forehead.
It targets the same areas as the coronal and endoscopic brow lift procedures, except it is for patients whose frown lines and drooping brow are not as pronounced. The procedure involves making small incisions usually no longer than two inches that are hidden behind the hairline. Surgeons can disconnect the fibrous connections of the brow from the skull beneath. This allows the forehead skin to be pulled back and excised to adjust the smoothness of the forehead. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis with the operation usually lasting 45 to 90 minutes. Local or general anesthetic is employed in combination with sedation.
Mini Brow Lift Results
Compared to the traditional brow lift or endoscopic brow lift surgery, the results are not as dramatic. But since the procedure is much less invasive, there is a lower risk of complications and the recovery time is drastically faster. The most distinguishing advantage is the absence of any large scars. When mini brow lifts includes the used of the high-tech methods of lasers and radio frequency, which reduce the need for invasive muscle cutting, faster healing times have been noted.
Preparations
It is important to consult your plastic surgeon for additional details about the operation, how to prepare for it, possible complications and side effects, and recovery regimen.
Result
All brow lift procedures essentially aim for similar results. With the reconstruction of your forehead's muscles and tissues to makes them tighter. It will reduce the former sagging position to eliminate the frowning and drooping, leading to a smooth forehead, raised eyebrows, and less frown lines. The results can be astounding and can take many years off your facial appearance.
